The confectionary Góa is officially established January the 1st 1968 by Karl Magnússon and Helgi Vilhjálmsson. Helgi Vilhjálmsson is still the managing director of the company.  Helgi is born in Reykjavík 1942. And his first impression of the industry was in the early 60´s.

Góa´s first headquarters were in a small rental-property in Reykjavik, but actually moved there 1968.  There we began manufacturing with only one caramel-machine to start with. Because of the product smallness we needed to find a short and catchy name on it, and that is why Góa became our choice.  In 1970 our business moved to a bigger quarters, but there in 1973 we began to manufacture the “Hraun”-chocolate bar (Volcano Bar), which has been the most popular product from the company.  It is safe to say that this product was set to challenge the Polish “Prins Polo” which had a very powerful position on the Icelandic market at the time. Along with “Hraun” (Volcano Bar) we began manufacturing another popular product which was a coco-chocolate bar called “Æði”.
At that time chocolate wasn't very common in Iceland because of high dues on imported candy, but they were lifted in 1980.

In 1974 Góa moved to Hafnarfjörður, and in 1986, Helgi (managing director) had to apply for 3 building sites on a new industrial area in Hafnarfjörður.  An area around 1800 sq.meters and thereof 1200 sq. meters under the factory itself.  Despite that, the factory overreached it's factory, and Góa got a 20,000 sq. meters plot in the main industrial area in Garðabær.  Over there Góa moved all its activities in to a fascinating 7.000 sq. meters building in 2005.

In 1993 two of the most well-established confectionaries of Iceland merged.  That was on one hand Góa in Hafnarfjörður and on the other hand Linda in Akureyri which was originally established in 1949.

In September 2002 Góa-Linda ehf. Bought the business of Drift sf. that manufacture licorices and thereby increased the company’s market share on the field of manufacturing and distributing candy.

Besides manufacturing the company also imports candy from many countries which is distributed to groceries stores. Candy manufacturing in the past years have been steadily increasing and continually seeking new ways to increase on the market.
Because of new consumerism the sale on “Hraun” and “Æði” in boxes has increased dramatically.  And other products in the same assortment are for example “Toffí” (Caramel Lolly Pops), “Prins”, “Flórída” (Volcano bar with cocoa) and “Brak” (Life's Break).  And with the merger of Linda, some products as “Lindu Buff”, “Conga” and “Linda-chocolate” added on to the product list.
Since 1995 the company has been producing Easter eggs which have been very successful on the market. Last year we launched a brand new Easter egg called “Lakkrís Egg” which is an Easter egg with liquorice bits in the chocolate

Góa-Linda ehf. Is the second biggest candy manufacturer in Iceland.  There are about 50 staff members and some of them have been employed at the company for more then 30 years.
